California State Board of Corrections Grants Recertification

The California State Board of Corrections (now called the Standards Corrections Authority) has re-certified Century Anger Management as a quality provider of Anger Managment Professional Certification Training for Probation, Parole, and Correctional officers for another year.  Re-certification is granted if an organization has shown a proven track record of successful trainings and participants from Law Enforement rate a course well and continue to find a need for their staff.  Century Anger Management has exceeded this criteria and was granted recertification without question.

Starting in July of 2005, Century Anger Management has been providing training for the California State Board of Corrections staff.  We regularly have probation officers, correctional officers and law enforcement staff attend our anger management certification trainings.  These trainings have previously been 12 hours, which included an 8 hour content training and a 4 hour supervision requirment.  The feedback has always been continually exceptional.  This re-certification is very important as all providers  must be recertified in order to stay current with the California State Board of Corrections provider list.  Our provider number is 3530-031088.

Century Anger Management Gains Approval from NAADAC

Century Anger Management Gains Approval from NAADAC.

The National Assocation for Addiction Professionals has officially approved Century Anger Management as a continuing education provider (#570). This identifies our Professional Certification Training Program in anger management program as meeting nationally approved standards of education developed for the alcoholism and drug abuse counseling field.

We are the ONLY training provider for anger management in the county with this approval. This approval means that "your program participants are assured that the contact hours of CEUs provided will be accpeted toward national credentialing by the NAADAC Certification Commmission and also by many of the individual state licensing/certification bodies."

This is great news for drug and alcohol counselors who are interested in our training as well as many other mental health related professionals. Century Anger Management is already approved for continuing education by:

Recent San Diego Anger Management Certification Training, Outstanding.

This past Friday, May 19th, Century Anger Management provided another highly successful  professional anger management training.  This content training gave participants exposure to the "Eight tools of anger Control" featured in our comprehsive workbook curriculum, "Anger Management in the twenty-first Century".  This 8 hour training is part of a 12 hour requirement for "Level 2" certification.  Participants included probation departments, licensed mental health providers, substance abuse counselors and other related professionals.

This was the content  portion of the certification training which will give participants a "Level 1 Certificate".  In order to recieve a "Level 2" certificate, they must also complete a supervision component.  This supervision is included in the cost of the training and can be accomplished in a variety of ways.  Century Anger Management is one of the only providers that actually requires a supervision component and enforces  it.  This is good for consumers because all Level 2 providers have had their work reviewed with feedback from their trainers.

The Century Anger Management model of intervention is one of the fastest growing models of anger management available.  The curricula is written at about the 7th grade reading level and is easy to  understand and follow for clients.  There are many diagrams, useful surveys and assignments that can be used as homework for clients.  The program includes skills in 8 key areas, which include:

  • Tool 1 medical, mental and behavioral effects of stress. 4- Step model to deal with stress. Exercises. Resources.
  • Tool 2 — Developing Empathy. Definition and examples of empathy. Why empathy and "emotional intelligence" are important in anger management. How to teach participants ways to increase or improve empathic responses to others.
  • Tool 3 — Respond instead of React. How to present concept of difference between "reacting" and "responding" to anger/stress triggers. Concept that anger expression is a decision. Concept of finding other behaviors/ways to communicate needs, feelings or requests that are more effective than anger.
  • Tool 4 — Change Self-Talk. Concept of how self-talk (cognitions) influence emotions. A-B-C-D-E model of anger control. Examples of new cognitions to teach participants. How to think like an optimist.
  • Tool 5 — Assertive Communication - Harmful communication styles. How to be an assertive communicator. Strategies to handle and resolve interpersonal conflict.
  • Tool 6 — Adjust Those Expectations. Expectations and anger Five steps to adjust expectations in relationships and in the workplace. Philosophy of finding alternative ways for need satisfaction. Strategies to teach this concept.
  • Tool 7 — Forgive, but don't forget. 3 steps in forming a grievance. Issue of "should you forgive?" Why forgiving is good for your health and peace of mind. Seven steps to forgiveness.
