Century Anger Management Updates Training Model and Standards

Century Anger Management, one of the leading national anger management providers for certification training will be updating their certification standards and training model starting January 1, 2007. Their training standards will increase from 16 hours of content training to 40 hours of content training. This increase is to both improve the quality of the training as well as collaborate with the American Association of Anger Management Providers in their effort to have a 40 hour training requirement to further promote standardization in the field. This will both help consumers of anger management as well as providers teaching classes. Content training with Century Anger Management will be offered in the form of live trainings, DVD’s, and web-based learning.

The Century Anger Management model of intervention utilizes the 8 Tools of Anger Control through the curricula “Anger Management for the Twenty-first Century” by Tony Fiore, Ph.D. and Ari Novick, Ph.D. Content includes teaching skills in 8 core areas: Stress management; Empathy and Emotional awareness; Learning to respond instead of react; Improving self talk and challenging automatic thinking; Assertive communication; Expectation management; Forgiveness, and Calming skills. The Century Anger Management model utilizes pre and post evaluations, which are taught during the live content trainings. All previous providers will be required to take additional training to stay current with these new standards and to remain active on the Century Anger Management provider list. We are excited about this new change and believe it will further strengthen our model and anger management, improve provider competency and further promote anger management as a viable and well needed niche separate from mental health.
