Anger is hard habit to break for atheletes

Expert says root cause of issues must be found for effective treatment

"You're undoing 20 years of experience where they've used their aggressive tendencies and gotten away with it," said Steve Edwards, a professor of sports psychology at Oklahoma State.

"Anger and aggression are not the same thing, Edwards said. But when they are paired together, there can be problems, as when Kenny Rogers attacked a cameraman before a Rangers game Wednesday."

Edwards said his research shows that the longer an athlete plays aggressive sports, the more likely he is to use aggressiveness in other areas of his life.

Russel Crowe for Anger Management

Russell Crowe, who was arrested on assault charges earlier this month, has announced that he is really a 'big softie.'

Crowe, 41, sees no value in anger and urges fans to control themselves. He told German magazine TV Movie: "I am the biggest softie you'll ever meet. Anger doesn't lead anywhere. You have to be in a position to be able to bring your temperament and adrenaline under control."

Rangers' Rogers Shoves Cameramen in Pregame Tirade

Rogers shoved two cameramen before the Rangers' game against Los Angeles on Wednesday in a videotaped tirade that included throwing a camera to the ground and threatening to break more.

"Kenny is having anger issues right now," Rangers general manager John Hart said. "I don't know what's going on inside. We're responding to something that's very unusual."
